History of The Dowsing Rods

Dowsing as practiced today may have originated in Germany during the 15th century, when it was used to find metals. As early as 1518 Martin Luther listed dowsing for metals as an act that broke the first commandment (i.e., as occultism). The 1550 edition of Sebastian Münster's Cosmographia contains a woodcut of a dowser with forked rod in hand walking over a cutaway image of a mining operation. The rod is labelled "Virgula Divina – Glück rüt" (Latin: divine rod; German: fortune rod or stick), but there is no text accompanying the woodcut. By 1556 Georgius Agricola's treatment of mining and smelting of ore, De Re Metallica, included a detailed description of dowsing for metal ore^.

In 1662 dowsing was declared to be "superstitious, or rather satanic" by a Jesuit, Gaspar Schott, though he later noted that he wasn't sure that the devil was always responsible for the movement of the rod.

An epigram by Samuel Sheppard, from Epigrams theological, philosophical, and romantick (1651) runs thus:

Virgula divina.

"Some Sorcerers do boast they have a Rod,

Gather'd with Vowes and Sacrifice,

And (borne about) will strangely nod

To hidden Treasure where it lies;

Mankind is (sure) that Rod divine,

For to the Wealthiest (ever) they incline."

The use of divining rods was a popular branch of folk magic in early 19th century New England. The early leaders in Mormonism, a religion that erupted out of that environment, were not exempt. Oliver Cowdery, the Book of Mormon scribe and "Second Elder" of the Church, used a divining rod for revelatory purposes. In a revelation given to Joseph Smith through his seer stone, God affirmed Cowdery's use of "working with the rod", and said that it was a divine gift through which Cowdery could learn the "mysteries of God". This gift later became known in the revelation as "the gift of Aaron", referencing Moses' brother Aaron's use of a rod in the Old Testament.

In the late 1960s during the Vietnam War, some United States Marines used dowsing to attempt to locate weapons and tunnels. An extensive book on the history of dowsing was published by Christopher Bird in 1979 under the title of The Divining Hand. James Randi’s 1982 book Flim-Flam! devotes 19 pages to comprehensive double-blind tests done in Italy which yielded results no better than chance.

Ouija Board - The History of the Ouija Board
What is a Ouija board? Ouija boards came into existence as a parlor game in the mid-1800's, when spiritism and channeling were at the height of fashion. The word "Ouija" is a blend of the French and German words for "yes." Adolphus Theodore Wagner first patented Ouija boards, sometimes referred to as "talking boards," in London, England on January 23, 1854. In the patent, Wagner called his invention a "psychograph" and its purpose was to read the minds of people with "nervous energy." By 1861, Frenchman, Allan Kardac, was describing the Ouija board as instruments with which to open communications with the spirit world. In seven short years, the Ouija board had evolved from a mind-reader to portal of communication with the dead.

Modern Ouija boards were developed by inventor William Fuld. Fuld sold his patent to Parker Brothers in 1966. Ouija boards, as we recognize them today, look nothing like the original prototypes. The 20-25 million Ouija boards sold by Parker Brothers consist of a rectangular game board that is covered with a woodcut-style alphabet, the words yes, no, and good-bye, and the numbers 0-9. Also included with the "game" is a heart-shaped plastic planchette. The planchette is the 'pointer' that is supposed to glide over the board under the direction of supernatural forces and form comments and questions by pointing out questions and comments. Parker Brothers has marketed Ouija Boards under the tagline, "It's only a game - isn't it?"

Ouija Board - The Deception
Satan and his demons can use the Ouija board to give advice, or even to guide a person in a certain direction. This guidance will even seem to be true, good, and helpful. Satan and his demons pretend to be caring. They try to appear as something that appears harmless. The Bible says, "And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light. It is not surprising, then, if his servants masquerade as servants of righteousness. Their end will be what their actions deserve" (2 Corinthians 11:14-15).

Satan and his demons will do this in order to get a person even more deeply involved in spiritist practices. Things like the Ouija board appear to be innocent at first, but soon a person finds themselves addicted to guidance from the spirit world - thereby allowing Satan to control and destroy their life. 1 Peter 5:8 warns us, "Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour." The Ouija Board may be advertised as just as game, and that is exactly what Satan wants us to believe.

Ouija Board - The Truth: Are they Evil?
Sadly, many people are deceived into believing that Ouija Boards are just a game. The truth of the matter is that God views channeling, or consulting spirits or the dead, to be a serious sin. Deuteronomy 18:11-12 says that anyone engaged in these practices is "detestable to God." According Old Testament Law, the Israelites were supposed to stone (execute) anyone who was a medium or a channeler (Leviticus 20:27).

Why does God take such a hard line on things like Ouija Boards - something that many people view as a game? In Isaiah 8:19-20, God says this: "When men tell you to consult mediums and spiritists, who whisper and mutter, should not a people inquire of their God? Why consult the dead on behalf of the living? …If they do not speak according to this word, they have no light…" God points out that we need to come to Him for answers. Because God is omniscient and omnipresent He knows everything and He is in control of everything. Asking charlatans and unknown entities for advice can be worse than fruitless; it can be dangerous. God wants us to trust Him!

Ghost Facts

* Ghosts can feed off of your fear. (There are other entities that are not ghosts that will also feed from your lower vibration and fear energies.) NEVER show your fear to a ghost. Ghosts can feel your fear. They can take from that negative energy and grow from that. They can grow larger literally as well. It feels like they are taking your breath away. Ghosts can, also, take your breath away. This takes your energy away and gives them more energy. If this happens make sure you tell them to STOP and BACK AWAY NOW! When this happens, that entity is showing you that they aren't feeling powerful and are trying to draw on YOUR power. Don't let them! As I have said, whenever you feel powerless or whatever, you say whatever empowers you. Whatever makes you feel more in control and protected. Most may say the Lord's prayer. Some kind of chant that is strong and makes you feel strong. Surround the White Light of protection around you as often as you remember.
* No one, especially in death can control you! So if you are encountering a ghost that is being controlled by another ghost, they need to know that they are in control of themselves. They have the power. And that entity needs to know this in order to move on and continue with their soul development. They are allowing that other soul to control them. They need to stop this. Once he or she realizes that they are in control and no one can control them, then he or she will move on.
* This came from Echo Bodine's excellent book for helping Earthbound Children Souls: "When there are children ghosts in a house, we've found it works very well to ask one of the adult ghosts, often the one most resistant, to escort the children to the light and through to the other side. We tell the children to hold hands so that none of them wanders off as they make their way through the tunnel."
* Don't discourage your child in matters of the spirit. They are more sensitive to spirits than you are as an adult (usually). So if they are talking about talking to a spirit or talking to "nothing", then they more than likely are telling the truth. Same goes with animals. They sense at a higher level than we do. If they start acting up or acting weird, you know what's going on. A spirit is in the house.
* Ghosts may be stubborn and will stay until they feel they have been punished enough for whatever reason. They will move on when they are ready. So you may not be able to get rid of all of them. These ghosts have chosen to stay thinking they HAVE to be punished, when really they don't, they can move on whenever they like. :)
* Some ghosts refuse to go on to the other side because they don't want to face another person who has passed on already. Like for example, if a person was molested by their father, or treated badly by a person, they will flat out refuse to move on to the other side. But all they need to do is ask their spirit guide when crossing over that they do NOT want to see that person. And they don't have to, for as long as they need. They don't know this and will insist that they will have to see them. But they are hurt from their life with that person. Just reassure them that it IS true. You do not have to see anyone you don't want to see on the Other Side.
* This one is very important. A Ghost that was an alcoholic or drug user (any addiction) when they were living will stick around and try to find a body to inhabit that is living with that same addiction as well. They jump into any body that is high, or whatever the flavor is of the Ghost, just to feel that high again. If you are an addict, surround that white light around you and ask God to protect you from these Ghosts, especially when intoxicated! Because of the Ghost inhabiting your body to feel these highs, you may have an even harder time at kicking the habit because they will not want you to quit either.
* Sometimes I hear that some people have a ghost around them and are aware of this and want to keep them. It's sad because these are Soul's, not pets. They need to move on to the Other Side and continue perfecting their Soul. If they have low self esteem and are staying because one of us wants them to, then they feel loved and protected in a way. But they don't know any better. You really do need to try to tell these Ghosts to go on to the Other Side. Say it with CONVICTION. Again, do not speak of them for at least three days, or (rarely) they will think you miss them and come back again. Sometimes this is effective and sometimes it is not. If the ghost does not leave, then sometimes they need more time. Sometimes it was not a ghost at all and actually a guide trying to contact you. Use your intuition to be sure.
* Portals are openings from this world to the Spirit World. Ouija boards and séances, etc., will open these up. If you don't know what you're doing you will invite too many entities, that you may not be able to handle. Any entity can come in from these Portals. Good or bad. Ask for protection from God, the universe, however you feel comfortable in asking. Get a psychic in there if it gets way out of hand. Portals are very serious. If you continually think about ghosts, read about ghosts, do things that invite them into our world, etc., the more ghosts you will attract.
* Ghosts have no concept of time, as with the Other Side as well. They may be here for years, decades, etc. Make sure you tell them the truth about what year it is. That might wake them up to what they are doing, or not doing in their case. Tell them they need to move on to the Other Side.
* Usually a residual haunting or "imprint" happens from traumatic events, from civil wars to a mother looking for her baby. This could be the real spirits OR an "imprint". But things that keep happening over and over again are most likely "imprints" and not the actual ghost(s), as the actual spirit has moved on.
* Also "imprints" of emotions can happen as well. Like a curvey road that when you go by a certain area, it feels sad, you pass the area, and you are fine, that type of thing. Something sad happened, there and it made an "imprint".

But there are those times that you see a residual haunting. Of (using the same example) a mother looking for her baby, but she doesn't know she is dead (or she does) and continues to look for her baby. Goes through the same event over and over again. If you see this, try to help that soul find it's way. Tell them they will find what they are looking for on the Other Side where they belong.

Remember ghosts were once living breathing human beings. There is no need to fear them. Like curses they only have power over you if you allow it. Nothing has power over you unless you give it permission. And do note that not all ghosts are out to get you. Many of them, if not the majority, are just trying to connect with the living with what they know in their very foggy state. Many are in need of a little compassionate assistance to cross over. We do the best we can to help and that is enough. :)

Pendulums

Some amazing things can be uncovered using the pendulum. For years the pendulum has been associated with the Svengali image of the hypnotist holding you in his power. Actually, as one looks at the information on pendulums, the pendulum goes much further back in history. Ancient kings and queens such as Solomon, Sheba, Cleopatra and other employed the use of pendulumists, who practiced the science of Radiesthesia. Today, pendulums are more widely used by psychologists, hypnotists and individuals to create a link of communication with the subconscious mind to uncover information thought to be forgotten or unknown. Many skilled in the science of E.S.P. utilize the pendulum to connect with powers and intelligence beyond the physical. In all truth, this tool is as serious as you make it. And dowsing pendulums can be as inexpensive or as expensive, or as small or as large as you want them.

The most inexpensive pendulum can be made for less than a penny by tying a small object such as a small nut on the end of a piece of string. Expensive pendulums can be made from the finest of crystals. The crystals are believed to possess certain energies that are compatible with the user's energies to get the best results. Somehow the acrylic pendulums we manufacture, (a molten plastic that crystallizes upon cooling and is polished so that it is perfectly clear) is the best approach for the beginner pendulumist. Because it is perfectly spherical, there are no distractions from rotating shapes that many others have.

Unlike ouija boards, that have somewhat of a reputation for connecting with unsavory and sometimes evil forces, the pendulum is associated with connecting with the good and more powerful forces. (Forces that bring health and prosperity to the user--and never at the expense of another's health or prosperity.) Using the pendulum, you can develop skills to achieve your potential or just plain have more fun picking numbers for the lottery.

What makes it work? Tiny muscles in your finger tips are connected to the motor centers of the brain and it is these motor centers that are affected by unconscious thoughts. Your unconscious thoughts cause the tiny muscles in your fingers to react and thus move the pendulum. This is called the ideomotor response. The pendulum then becomes a direct link to your unconscious. And the unconscious is where thoughts and memories are stored that your conscious is unaware of. The pendulum is a means of connecting with those hidden truths and memories. Using the pendulum this way is called pendulum dowsing--using it to find information.

Initial Communication--Making your dowsing charts for crystal pendulum dowsing.
First, draw a circle about 4" in diameter on a blank sheet of paper. Draw a straight horizontal line through the circle to intersect the center of the circle. Place an arrow on each of of the line and label the line, "NO." Next draw a vertical line through the center of the circle, add an arrow on each end and label this line, "Yes." At the top of the circle draw a curved line inside or outside the circle to match the curvature of the circle, place one arrow on the right side of the line and label this curved line, "I don't know." Lastly at the bottom of the circle, draw another curved line as you did at the top, place an arrow on the left end of the line and label it, "I don't care to answer."

Using the dowsing chart with the pendulum*
If you're right handed, place your right elbow on the table with your forearm and hand extended above the chart. Drape the chain of the pendulum over your right forefinger and hold in in place with your thumb such that the ball of the pendulum is suspended from a half inch to an inch over the center of the chart. Obviously if you are left handed, you use your left arm and hand.
Begin by thinking the word, "Yes." Don't try to make the pendulum move, nor try to hold it still, just let the thought, "yes," repeat in your mind. Some people respond immediately and the pendulum begins moving up and down on the chart along the vertical line labeled, "Yes." The response might be very minimal or very strong--it doesn't matter.
If the pendulum doesn't move, it's because you are trying too hard, i.e. trying to make sure that you are not consciously moving it. If so, relax, take a few deep breaths, close your eyes and repeatedly think, "Yes." Let your mind and body feel the direction of, "yes." If no response is attained, skip to horizontal direction. Repeat this for the horizontal direction representative of, "NO." There are only two other directions, clock wise and counter clock wise. Think, "I don't know," to have the pendulum move in the clockwise direction. And then plead the fifth (pun), think, "I don't care to answer," to have it move in the counter clock wise direction.
Now you are ready for basic communication. Suggestion: avoid starting with complication. Keep your initial communication basic. Begin by asking, "I am asking my subconscious if my name is "_________?" Or, I am asking my subconscious mind if I am married?" Make sure each question is directed to your subconscious mind by saying, "I am asking my subconscious mind... As you direct the question to the subconscious, avoid consciously thinking the answer, i.e. let your mind be blank. Avoid thinking, "sure my wife's name is," or, "of course I'm not--I'm not even dating anyone." Also make sure the question is clearly stated. If not, the pendulum may swing diagonally.

If you are having trouble getting the pendulum to respond, you are trying too hard. Like any talent, it improves with tutoring and practice. The book, Pendulum Power by Greg Nielsen and Joseph Polanski as well as our own "How to use the Pendulum" cassette program may be very useful. Often times the hypnotic suggestions and relaxation found on the cassette program opens the pathways to your subconscious more easily and effectively than if you do it simply form a book or these instructions. The program also gives suggestions to develop the subconscious connection with the universal intelligence.

Once you have linked communication with your pendulum and feel confident, you can begin using it for finding answers which are not known to your conscious. It can be used as a Magic Lotto ball, a Magic Mind Finder®, food finder, for dowsing, and so on. Technically, as a Magic Mind Finder your are exploring your subconscious for self truths. As a Magic Lotto Ball, you're having fun picking numbers or using it in a more advanced way of connecting your subconscious with powers beyond yourself--there are no guarantees that this is possible.

Caution: the pendulum gives you literal interpretation from the subconscious, e.g., you may ask yours subconscious mind if your name is (name) and even though that is what your birth certificate says, it may swing, NO." This is because your subconscious doesn't regard you as " _____," but as your nickname. Or perhaps you ask yourself if you're a writer, and it might say, NO." because you regard yourself as a poet. Thus you may not always have rational explanations for the answers. Your mind is influenced easily, so if your husband disappointed you and didn't take out the garbage today, don't ask if you love him. A "NO," answer may mean that your love is contingent on the garbage being taken out, which really has nothing to do with him -- unless your marriage is only about the garbage being taken out.

Nomenclature: some who use the pendulum call it dowsing and the chart is called a dowsing chart. By holding the pendulum over a specific food, dowsing pendulums can be used to determine if the specific food is healthy for you.
Those who use it for hypnosis or self hypnosis generally don't refer to it as dowsing, they simply call it using the pendulum to uncover hidden truths or as an aid to induce hypnosis or self hypnosis. Then there are those who simply call themselves pendulumists and use it metaphysically.

Dowsing Rods

Today in science class, we made these dowsing rods that were made out of those clothes hangers. Now the experiment here is that we lay out cards numbered 1-5 and we lay them 1/2 inch next to each other and we asked the rod"Where is the number 2?" And all you have to do is just imagine the thing in your mind and open your eyes and walk over to each card and move it above it and then wait a while trying not to move the rods voluntarily and usually, the rods either point down or they cross each other. This was an interesting experiment and i hope our teacher does it again more frequently!

Very Very Interesting Pictures

I was surfing the web today and i found these extremely interesting pictures that i wanted to share!



First of all here we have the famous brown lady. The story behind this is that a group of photographers were taking pictures and they just wanted to take a picture of the grand staircase and so they took the picture. Well, when they developed them, they saw this thing that was just some weird white misty thing on the staircase. In that same year, they reported more brown lady pictures.











Here we have the famous ghost on the tulip staircase. I don't know the story behind this but i hear that this is one of America's most famous ghosts of the 21st century. This must have a famous story behind it but I'm not sure.

Virginia City is a great town for ghost hunting, or just to visit great history.

This spiral stairway is said to be very like the one in the ‘Loretto Chapel’. No supports, no nails, just a standing spiral. The room is small and creepy, the feeling is scary, all my pictures have scary images, like orbs or glowing lights, even the shadows off of the chandelier are scary.
